Time Machine will not back up MacBook Pro

Time Machine using external drive Drive 1TB will not back up MacBook Pro. Progress always shows as seen below:

Any help/suggestions are appreciated.

How long since you last ran a Time Machine backup?


If you choose to connect your backup drive only from time-to-time, try to do so at least every-other day, at minimum. Otherwise, it may take several hours of computation just to decide what needs to be backed up, before any files are transferred. You will just have to wait it out.
