I have the latest model that Apple made of the 27" Cinema display. I recently bought a laptop with a mini display port and the Apple Cinema Display will not recognize the laptop. Is there some kind of adapter that I can purchase to make it work?

Are you sure it's not a Thunderbolt display? Thunderbolt and Mini DisplayPort use similar connectors, but the Thunderbolt plug has a lightning bolt icon.
The Thunderbolt display has only one cable to the computer. The Mini DisplayPort version also has a USB cable.
The Thunderbolt display requires a computer with Thunderbolt, not Mini DisplayPort.
