Apple remote for use by elderly

I would like to buy an Apple TV for my elderly parents who are pretty much house bound but there is no way they could use the regular Apple TV remote. Is there an option other than this. They have a very basic big button universal remote we purchased for them to use with their tv and DVD recorder.
