Used to be able to select a photo in Photos and hit the shift key to generate a preview. No longer working in Mojave. I tried repairing the Photos library, no go. Also tried deleting cache.db files in QuickLookDaemon, no go. Very frustrating!!!!!

That worked. Wow... I should take a selfie to show everyone how red (with embarrassment) my face is. It was the Return key all along, wasn't it? And it was the Space bar I meant when I first registered the problem, not Shift key. I wish I could blame the stupidity on drink, but alas I was sober as a judge. Just a brain belch. Sheesh! Thank you so much for your reply.
Try the "return" key.
You're welcome. If you select an image in the Finder or on the Desktop and press the space bar it opens Quick Look. 😎
