When I turn on my MacBook Pro 15" I now get the apple logo in red and green stripes and the progress bar is also red and gets stuck halfway. I've tried resetting the NVRAM and the PRAM but that doesn't make any difference.

When I turn on my MacBook Pro 15"2012 I now get the apple logo in red and green stripes and the progress bar is also red and gets stuck halfway. I've tried resetting the NVRAM and the PRAM but that doesn't make any difference. I've tried holding down the option key on start up, I chose my back up HD but that doesn't make any difference either, everything still has these faint red lines across the icons and then the screen goes blank. Please help!

I'm in agreement with Grant as to the possible cause of the problem, but you shouldn't have marked your issue as being solved because it will limit the amount of attention others will pay to your issue. You may want to consider reposting your issue. Be sure to post it in the MacBook Pro forum area this time.
