Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand you are seeig a "Myshare" folder in the Finder app on your iMac. Is this in the "Locations" section of the sidebar in the Finder window? If so, it could be either you or someone else has file sharing enabled for your computer. First, check System Preferences and make sure File Sharing is not enabled on your system.
Set up file sharing on Mac (In this case you are going to turn OFF file sharing if any of these are enabled. They are not enabled by default).
On your Mac, choose Apple menu
> System Preferences, then click Sharing.
Remove any checkmarks in the "On column" for Screen Sharing, File Sharing, Remote Management, etc.
The Public folder of each user with an account on your Mac is shared automatically. To prevent a folder from being shared, select it in the Shared Folders list and click the Remove button.
No Access: The user can’t see or copy files from the folder.
Then, if you don't want to see other publicly shared locations, in the sidebar in Finder hover your mouse to the right of "Locations" and choose "Hide" so you don't see them.
Take care.
Hi,
Thanks for the response, I appreciate it. No, the myshare is showing up under “shared” in the sidebar on finder.
I went to system preferences and nothing was checked for sharing.
I don’t want to “hide” the myshare. I want to remove it. I don’t know how it got into my computer and/or what it is for.
Do you know what it is? How to remove it?
Thx
Katy
