iPad Pro 11" still makes noise when muted!

I just recently bought the new iPad Pro 11", 512GB, wi-fi only. I've noticed that even when I turn the volume completely off, either by using the side buttons or the slider in the control panel or settings, I can still hear audio coming from the speaker in games or movies (Netflix, etc). It is extremely quiet - quieter than the lowest volume setting for any other device and can only be heard when you press your ear directly to the speaker or when I'm playing a game late at night when everyone else is asleep and my surroundings are completely silent...leading me to believe it is a fault in my particular iPad itself, or the iPad Pro design itself...or even the OS? The closest Apple store is still about an hour away, so I can't just pop in to ask a specialist...so I'd like to get some feedback here before I take the trip.

And yes, I have tried multiple times and confirmed that the volume is completely off using multiple methods, I've tried turning on the bell icon in the control center...and to be absolutely clear, I'm still hearing very faint, but noticeable sounds from games and movies or youtube or whatever, I'm NOT referring to alerts or system sounds (like keyboard clicks). This is my 3rd iPad, and my 7th Apple device, and this is the first time I've ever experienced this.

Thanks!

iPad Pro Wi-Fi, iOS 12.1, 11-inch, silver

I have just come across this same issue. In an app with sound, muting still leaves a trace of distorted sound coming through the speaker. In a game where I’ve muted the sounds in game as well as having iPad sound set to mute I can hear a low level hiss. This is on iPad Pro 11” 256Gb.

So, I’m experiencing the exact same thing on my 12.9 inch 256GB WiFi Model. I was playing a game called Brawl Stars when I first noticed it. I had the volume all the way to “mute” and was hearing the games noise and I thought I was crazy thinking my brain just knew the tune so well that it was filling in the beat of the games music. Mind you, this is the third iPad I’ve had a problem with. The other two had dead pixels right out of the box and once you notice it, you can’t unnotice it! That’s when I thought this one would be the iPad to bring me peace. Then this happens. I’m upset about the quality of this “expensive” product that cost over $1,000 dollars. The distorted noise only comes out of the speaker next to the power button. I’m just curious to wonder if it could be a software or a hardware issue.

I’d like to understand what your thoughts of this issue are or how you intend to handle this situation as a whole.

Thank you kindly for letting me know I’m not crazy!

I've tested this and it makes no difference for me, either with that option enable and changing ringer/alert volume via the buttons, or by manually reducing that to 0.

In an app streaming video with sound (such as Netflix, or Sky Go) I can reduce the volume to 0, and still hear the faint distorted sound coming through the speakers regardless of the ringer/alert setting. In a room with ambient noise you don't really notice it. In a quiet room (at night for example) it's immediately obvious.

Have this same issue on a regular 6th Gen iPad. In quiet room you can still hear game sounds faintly. I put ringer volume all the way down, and turned on mono audio, and then i clicked volume up once then volume down and it seemed to go silent. Don't know if all the steps are necessary but it worked for me. I still hear a faint staticy air sound like the speakers are still being powered if i put my ear right up to them but no game sounds are coming out now.
