After updating and restarting my iMac none of my apple keyboards will work new or old that were plugged in, other keyboards work and all ports work. Why?

I recently did an update which required a restart on my iMac which has macOS Mojave version 10.14.1. After the restart my apple keyboard that was plugged in would not work. I tried different ports and nothing, but the ports worked for other things, like my Nikon camera and my backup drive. I tried a Logitech keyboard I had and that worked fine. Then I found a brand new keyboard I had that came with the new iMac I just got a few months ago and that would not work in any port and I used that same cord to plug my iPhone in and that worked. So now I am still typing on the Logitech keyboard and wondering why my apple keyboards will not work. Help?

iMac, macOS Mojave (10.14.1)

Perhaps I can help you (scooby snacks may be coming later, I hope 🙂

Try resetting the SMC/PMU* and zapping the pram (hold down apple, option, p and r keys on reboot, hold down for 3 chimes, then let go of the keys and let the imac boot up as per usual.) I don't quite understand why you could use the same cord to plug your iphone in and that worked, but yet apple keyboard don't work at all, but the Logitech one does. Very strange indeed. I presume that you have usb keyboards here and not bluetooth. Yeah, bluetooth works fine, but on startup and when you have problems....not so much. So.... I'm guessing it's not the cable connected to the keyboard, or the usb to Lightning iPhone cable. but, rather the usb socket itself...maybe stuff is drawing too much power. Anyways, try the first stuff I mentioned, and see how it goes. There's also a 10.14.2 beta out there if you're in the beta program and you want to update. If you suspect there might be a problem, hold down the "Shift" key on startup and you'll start up in single user (safe mode) which just loads the bare minimum needed to work.

that's all I got
