Why doesn’t my iPhone 8 dongle adapter work?

All of a sudden....my iPhone can’t be used to listen to music on headphones. *** Apple? I’m using an Apple dongle, Apple headphones and my iPhone is completely updated. Still....as I try to listen to MUSIC ON MY IPHONE I can’t. The music is static if it plays at all. It moves from one earbud to the next. What a piece of crap. Didn’t iPhone start as a handheld music player? How is this an issue now?? This might have finally put me over the edge to becoming an Android customer. Well done Apple. 👏-1F3FE;👏-1F3FE;👏-1F3FE;👏-1F3FE;

Thanks for your input. I had actually already tried using air, toothpick, etc to clean out the port and the dongle port. I don’t remember getting headphones with a lightening plug but I’ll look for them. I hate Apple earbuds as they fall out of my ears constantly but was trying the older pair thinking it would only work with Apple products. Still....it is frustrating that I can’t just use any headphones I want with my expensive iPhone. Seems like a contempt for the customer from Apple.

If you are using Apple headphones, it does not require the dongle. The iPhone 8 came with the lightning EarPods and should plug in directly to the lightning port. However, if you are using an older pair of EarPods with the 3.5mm plug, then make sure that the lightning port on the iPhone is clear of any debris. Look with a magnifying glass and strong flashlight to see in the port. Use a non-metallic device, such as a wooden toothpick, to remove any lint, dust, or other debris.
