Xcode Install Stuck?

I just upgraded to Mojave and am trying to update Xcode. The App Store install process seems to get stuck at about 80%. I have tried several things I found online - clearing the AppStore cache, killing the installd process, rebooting - but every time I am able to get it to go it gets stuck at the same place. The most recent attempt has been sitting there for about 2 hours, and I plan to leave it overnight - but kind of doubt that's going to fix it. Can anyone help me?

If installed, net monitoring apps such as Little Snitch and Growl can prevent apps from downloading as well as anti virus software.

If not, a Safe Mode boot deletes system caches that can help after a macOS update or upgrade.

To start up in safe mode:

  1. Start or restart your Mac, then immediately press and hold the Shift key. The Apple logo appears on your display. If you don't see the Apple logo, learn what to do.
  2. Release the Shift key when you see the login window. If your startup disk is encrypted with FileVault.

To leave safe mode, restart your Mac without pressing any keys during startup.

Then see if you can finish the Xcode update. The latest version available is 10.1.
