How to add serial numbers to rows but skipping certain

Hi everyone! I'm looking for a way to add serial numbers to rows while skipping rows that contain certain texts. I tried the ROWS and COUNTAIF functions, but to no avail.

I hope the numbers in my spreadsheet could look like this:

Does this do what you want?

The formula, as written, depends on the continuation of the pattern exhibited in column B. (All 'headings' start with "TPO" followed by other characters.)

A1: IF(LEFT(B1,3)="TPO","",COUNTIF(B$1:B1,"<>TPO*"))

Fill down as needed.

Is there a function to count the number of times certain phrases exist in the file? Not exactly phrases but serial numbers of something. Those serial numbers are in a column and I want to create another column that counts the number of times the serial number in the same row exists in the entire file that have multiple sheets. Here is what they look like,rowSerial NumberHow many?11234-5678222345-9876335678-1343141145-90824Right now, I have to do it manually by copying the serial number I want to count, then 'command-F' and 'command-V' and read how many the pasted serial number is found in the file from the 'Find & Replace' window and manually enter that number-found in the new column ('How many?'), then move on to the next row for the new serial number. Obviously, it's very tedious, and I can't do all the thousand rows of these manually. Is there a function that can help me do that? Then I could just copy the function to the next rows to complete the task.
