what if you don't know the previous owner

Got it from someone they got of someone and they never gave me the password or anything like that to get into it

If you’re referring to an iPod shuffle, or a fourth generation or earlier iPod touch, you can just restore it.

If you’re referring to a fifth generation iPod touch, iPhone 4, iPad 2, or any newer iOS device, you can’t. The activation lock is an anti-theft measure.
