Putting an iPod 6 Touch to sleep

I occasionally need to store my iPod away unplugged for a week or more. I find that even with the unit in Airplane Mode and wi-fi off, the battery runs down over that time.

How can I put it into an Off mode that uses less power; and are there any caveats with this, like the clock not updating?

How to Turn Off iPod I'm not sure if I'm turning my iPod off correctly. I press the Sleep/Wake button to shut the thing off. It seems like the battery runs out very fast when the thing is shut off. Sometimes I hear a musical signal to let me know I have a message. I don't think this should happen when the thing is shut off. Am I not turning my iPod off all the way? Thank you.
