how do we make a temporary Apple ID whilst waiting for account recovery? And when it’s done how do we get it on the phone?

waiting on account recovery but the Number they have is for the phone we cannot set up yet so how do we set up a temp Apple ID to use the number? And then how do we get the other account back when it’s been recovered?

Depending on how long the recovery is expected to take and how badly you need what is currently in iCloud, the easiest thing to do is sign into the new phone using the temporary ID and use it normally. Don't attempt to sync to the account that is in recovery's iCloud data. That will keep everything separate and when you sign back in using the old account, everything will be there. Refrain from making any new purchases as they will be tied to the temporary ID. Total separation is the easiest thing to do.

If the account is in Recovery, you may not be able to sign out of the phone in order to add a temporary ID if that is what you are trying to do. You also may not be able to assign the phone number to a new ID if it is assigned to the ID in Recovery.

Create a new Apple ID. Use the below as a guide of where to sign out/in. When the old ID is recovered, use the below to sign out/sign in with it.

We haven’t signed into the phone, basically I got my partner a phone on contract and we went to restore the phone with her Apple ID and we don’t have the same number or the card that was for verifying identity so we had to go through account recovery so that she doesn’t lose everything, I rang Apple support and they said to set up a temporary Apple ID and then follow the instructions sent to get the account back but wondering how to do that and how it works as we don’t want to lose what’s on the iCloud?

See if this helps. Try this and then repeat it when you get the old ID back.

There may be some data loss, but you can minimize it. If syncing photos with iCloud, ensure Optimization is turned off in Settings/Your Name/iCloud/Photos and/or in Photos/Preferences/iCloud. Then make sure full resolution photos are on the device/computer. When signing out of iCloud, if asked whether you want to retain data, choose yes. Messages conversations will be lost if they are addressed to the ID. See the article below for other places that the old ID should be removed.
