bootcamp assistant partition memory

I have MacBook Pro, late 2013 running High Sierra, 10.13.6. 8GB memory, 500 GB SSD, 377 GB available.

When I start Bootcamp assistant it tells me I do not have enough startup disk space (40 GB min) to partition, but I obviously have that space. I have rebooted, but get the same error.

Hello and welcome to Apple Support Communities, pjlimon!

I understand you're not able to start Bootcamp Assistant due to being told that you do not have enough startup disk space. I'd be happy to provide information to help you out.

Use the following guide to get Bootcamp going: If Boot Camp Assistant gives a 'Not enough space' error
I hope this information helps you out.
