Negative storage on iphone

Ios 11 and 12 problem: negative storage space on iphone, with whatsapp size being massively undercalculated. Problem triggered ever since turning on iCloud messages when iCloud storage was full. Have since turned off the feature but the file system seems to be very messed up. System size is roughly 18GB now.
