Can't believe that Apple remote will not control Keynote presentation

Why doesn't Keynote work with Front Row and the Apple Remote control?

Macbook Pro 17", Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Mine does. I use it all the time. Maybe if you gave
us just a few more details about your configuration
(Does the remote work with Front Row? Which version
of Keynote are you using?) and what troubleshooting
steps you've already tried, we might be able to make
some suggestions for you.

I'm running Keynote v.3.02. First of all, Front row doesn't show Keynote as a supported app. Once in Keynote running a slide show, the remote does nothing. Front Row works fine with iTunes and iPhoto, so I suspect everything is working properly. I've checked Keynote Prefs, looked through all the menus and have seen nothing pertaining to either Front Row or the Apple Remote. I have searched the Apple "Knowledge Base" looking for references to Keynote and the Remote control, but can find nothing. Obviously, I'm overlooking something, but I can't imagine what it might be.

Thanks in advance for any help

Good, you're up-to-date. That's the same version I have.

First of all, Front row doesn't show Keynote as a supported app.

Keynote is not supported in "Front Row". It's one of the "pro" type applications from iWork, not one of the "consumer" type applications from iLife.

Just to be clear, since you weren't specific, are you saying that your remote works fine with Front Row in the Music and Photos sections? You can use the Apple remote to startup Front Row and control it? If your remote doesn't work at all, you might check the Security System Preferences and make sure the IR reciever hasn't been disabled.

Once in Keynote running a slide show, the remote does nothing.

If I use the mouse or trackpad in my MacBook to open a Keynote presentation, I can use the "play" (center) button on my remote to start the slideshow. I can then use the right or left buttons to step forward or step backwards in the slides. I can also use the "menu" button on the remote to quit the slideshow itself but not Keynote. It should "just work", you're right, there are no preferences or settings in Keynote to enable or disable the Apple remote functionality.

Is your remoted "paired" with your Mac? It's worth a try:

If it is already "paired", you might try unpairing it from the Security System Preferences.
