HomePod language mismatch

I have just bought a HomePod in a Spanish Apple Store (where I also live), to bring home to Ireland. When I ask Siri about my calendar, I get the reply “ Before I can answer that, the language on the iPhone and HomePod need to match.” Both my iPhone X and the HomePod are set to UK English.

Can anyone help?

if this is some silly regional problem the device is useless to me. Both countries are part of the EU.

Here is how you fix the issue.

Open settings on your IPhone -> go to Siri & Search -> under “Ask Siri,” take note of what your settings are.

Next, go to your Home app and in the top right corner tap the “edit” icon. You accessories will begin to shake. From your accessories select your HomePod. Scroll down to “Siri” and change your language preferences to what was on your IPhone. Make sure personal requests is on and you’re good to go

I’ve reset the HomePod, and still have the same message. During the set up it said it would update me when Irish English was available in my country. I’ve never heard of such a language, but the HomePod is not available yet in Ireland, which, of course is why I bought it in Spain.

Both my iPhone and the HomePod are set to UK English.

Since my last post on this issue, I have called Apple Support on 2 - 3 occasions, and put the problem to them. They appear to be equally mystified.

Surely there is some explanation for this odd behaviour? I have been using Apple products since I bought my old Apple II Europlus in 1983, and I have always been able to get problems sorted out.

Has anyone got answer for this?
