I am trying to use a superscript character in mail. I cannot find an answer which works in Mojave using a Mac. Any suggestions as the Character viewer does not seem to give a result?
iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014), macOS Mojave (10.14.1)
Copy and paste into Mail from my example above works, so you can make a prototype in some other app and copy that. Or for speed you could use m\3 or m^2 both of which ought to be clear enough. There are also these unicode characters ² and ³ which would do the trick if you can track them down. I searched the web for superscript 2 character to find the first one.

Can you copy and paste from an existing example? E.g. 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc.

Bingo!
A shame that there is not an easier way, I am used to, for example, holding down the e key and then immediately hitting the number 2 key for the accents (é). Perhaps it is possible in the future to programme a shortcut. Thanks.

Exactly what character is it that you want? Let us know and we will try to find it for you.
I was emailing a friend and wanted to use 'm cubed' i.e.metres cubed. The same condition would apply to metres squared.

The ASCI number is 178, so type the ASCI178 for the "upper" number 2 after the letter m.

In windows you type 178 while holding the Alt key, in mac I don't remember (I don't have the mac with me now).

Mac has never used that ascii code system. At best you would have to activate and switch to a different keyboard layout (Unicode Hex) and type the hex code 00b2 while holding alt/option.
