Can you transfer itunes backup to icloud?

I have an iTunes backup that I want to access the files of. An Apple employee on the phone told me this would be easy with an iCloud backup but I can't can't seem to find any way to upload the backup to iCloud. I would assume an iTunes and iCloud backup are the same? Is there any way to do this?

In spite of what you were told, it is not possible to access the contents of an iCloud Backup other than to use it to do a full restore of an iOS device or to use it to set up a new iOS device.

There are some differences in the content of an iTunes backup and an iCloud backup and there isn't a way to transfer one to the other.

There are 3rd party utilities that can access the content of iTunes backup. Following is one example: Premium iPhone Backup Extractor - Windows or Mac | iBackup Extractor

I suspect the employee may have been thinking of data synced to iCloud rather than an iCloud backup. Synced data can be easily accessed from any computer by logging into www.icloud.com.

If you haven't already checked that, it is possible that the data that you are looking for is synced to iCloud even if you don't have an iCloud backup.

@FoxFifth - thanks for the speedy and detailed response. That seems to be the cheapest third-party application I have seen so far so definitely one to keep in mind. I dislike the idea of paying for it but I guess I must have to.

I am so unbelievably tired of Apple employees giving out the wrong information/being incompetent! This is another reason why I always advise friends never to purchase their products and why I don't.
