2008 Mac Pro Wifi

Hello!

I have a couple 2008 mac pros I no longer use and are going to sell. The Wifi works in one of them but the other is missing an Airport card. I've looked at how to install one and there are 3 antennas. I can only find the BT antenna.

My question is did all of the Silver mac pros towers come with all three antennas or was there in exception to the rule.

Thank you!

guy

I have a Mac Pro 2010 so cannot speak from personal experience of a 2008 model but I believe the answer would be the same based on the information at https://www.osxwifi.com/

Based on this I would say that originally your Mac Pro would have come with three WiFi antenna but only two would have been connected. A separate - fourth antenna would have been present for the Bluetooth connection. It is possible that your older model might have only had two WiFi antenna fitted.

I found the following articles which describes how to fit a WiFi card to the MacPro 2008 aka MacPro3,1.

See - http://www.macvidcards.com/wifi-and-bluetooth-card-installation-in-a-31.html

These articles show how to fit a newer model WiFi card as a replacement for an older original WiFi card. The WiFi kit consists in this case of an adapter card and the WiFi card is then fitted to this adapter. If you are looking for the kit to add/upgrade the WiFi and Bluetooth in your Mac Pro then see - https://www.osxwifi.com/product/mac-pro-2008-31-2007-21-2006-11-apple-broadcom-b cm94360cd-802-11-a-b-g-n-ac-with-bluetoo the kit consists of the adapter card and the new WiFi/Bluetooth card.

Newer cards like this one use if available three antenna for WiFi and one for Bluetooth making a total of four.

Based again on my Mac Pro 2010 which I fitted a similar WiFi/Bluetooth upgrade to, the spare WiFi antenna would be in the location of where the WiFi card goes but probably pushed back under the plastic PCIe slot ducts shown in the top-left corner i.e. underneath the CD/DVD drive bays. On newer Mac Pros i.e. 2009 and later the WiFi and Bluetooth cards are located behind the CPU tray at the bottom.

Yup, yup, they are tricky little rascals to find and.....put the connectors on the terminals on both the bluetooth and/or the airport card and to get it fastened down.... did it *once* with a little help...not inclined to do it again....believe it or not, they are probably tucked just underneath the logic board, toward the top, where the airport/bluetooth card goes. I agree with what Grant Bennet-Alder wrote..there have always been 3...if you're having bluetooth reception problems, you can change cables on the bluetooth card, disconnecting the one labelled 'BT" and connecting another one, but that's for another day. I'd recommend having a set of magnetized #0, #1 and #00 phillips screwdrivers handy also.

Hello!

Preciate your help.

I've searched everywhere without taking out the fan assembly and the mother board which I'm sure I don't want to do but might have to. In apples instructions on how to install an Airport card they say the wire should be right there in sight of where the BT cable is. I see nothing.

Any suggestions on where they could be hiding?

Thanks!

guy
