Monitor/screen/display issues

Just got my MacBook Pro 17" glossy, and confirmed, the screen is very pathetic. I have banding, light bleeding in the corners/edges, and a stupid thin bright strip at the bottom of the screen.

I installed Windows Vista Ultimate via Boot Camp, and surprise surprise, it looks perfect. (well, when you boot on top of a blank, err, black background, it still shows the bleeding from the corners, like little spotlights from the corners)

Point of the story: if Windows displays its colors perfectly on the same screen, it cannot be a problem with the screen/only. Firmware? Drivers? Calibration? I don't know much about this stuff, but I do know that this is unacceptable in terms of quality.

A very disappointed customer who is going to boot on Vista more often than expected.
