Flicker on top left of screen after exiting app.

I have an iPhone XS only a month old running iOS 12.1 with 256 GB. Ever since I got the phone from time to time, when I exit an app and go to the home screen, an icon or image of the app I was using prior pops up on the top left corner like an afterimage.


I have tried resetting the phone and restoring from backup, same problem. I have tried resetting the phone with reinstalling the OS and then restoring from backup, same problem. I have tried resetting the phone without restoring from backup, same problem. I have come to the conclusion that this unit is either a defect or this is a hardware problem. I have only dropped the phone once at a very low height (knee height) and no damages whatsoever.


Help, please.

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities, it's great to have you here. I understand that you had some questions about the issue you're seeing with an afterimage-like image is appearing on your screen. That's definitely odd, but I'm happy to point you in the right direction if I can.

Based on the issue, there's a few troubleshooting steps that come to mind but it sounds like you've already tried them. In particular, since you're seeing the issue continue to occur after restoring your iPhone to factory settings without restoring your backup, I would like to recommend that you have your iPhone inspected in person. You can contact Apple for support and service in your region to go over what options you have available for you in terms of local service.

They will be able to inspect your iPhone in person, see what's going on and tell you if this afterimage is expected behavior or if it's something that could be fixed by a hardware repair.

I have the same issued, that will be my 3rd replacement on the iPhone XS 256GB Grey . The issue remain unchanged, I bet this is universe software bug.


I literally set factory default and monitor. But nothing happening, as long apps installed. The issue on and off recurring.


You can refer to video link, someone else manage to replicate the issue with a video. The issue intermittent occurred to be during exit apps or swipe to left and right.

Hey, so I had this issue when I owned the iPhone 8 Plus. I got a new XS recently and the same problem happened. I done everything such as back up and restore and last resort was to book an appointment. But to have the sameness problem on both phones even my brand new one must be the software or something? Today I set it up as a new phone and only have WhatsApp Downloaded and Instagram and the problem is still happening! How this helps a little bit to work out if it’s the apps causing it
