iPhone 5s won't charge or turn on

So my old iPhone 5s will not charge or turn on. Pressing the power button displays the low battery icon and when plugged in (with multiple chargers) it will only display that indicator and not charge up. I've tried the reset method and it has not worked, and when restoring through iTunes it results in an error. What could the problem be and would replacing the battery help? It displays so I'm guessing it's at least not a screen problem.
