Merging backup folders in backups.backupdb deleting duplicates (time machine drive)

Hello Every one,

Q1.

I have a drive that I used for time machine during 2016 - 2017. This drive was lost and now I found it😍, I have 10 back up folders on the drive. I want to check all the files I had for this period of time and "store" the important documents, movies, pictures I had through the time.

I want to merge this 10 back up folder to ONE folder "with no duplicates" To the same drive. HOW?✅

The size of the drive is 655GB right now. I think I will have 250 gb of files once I merge them without the duplicates.

Q2.

Can I format the Time Machine drive to a normal formatted drive by keeping the folders inside.

This way I could use a duplicate file remover application.. And I can delete all the duplicates, and merge the files by manually.✅

Thank you for paying attention and reading.

Best,

Grant is absolutely correct - the TimeMachine backup does not have duplicates. There is an original file and then all expressions of the file that appear in newer backups are links to the original. A link appears to the user like a file in every respect, unlike an alias, but it is not the file.

Time machine does not store duplicates of anything, unless the file with a particular name has changed. Each of the backups from particular date&time contains the files that have changed, and pointers to the other files that were not changed, but exist in an older backup.

You can not change the items in your Time Machine backup set, except with TimeMachine.app. If you try to, you will find that deleted items are stuck in the Trash, and cannot be deleted, and your backup set has lost its integrity.

Look at what you want to accomplish. Just attach that drive again and it will add the needed changes to reflect your drive today, based on what's already on the drive. When the drive is getting full, it will compress the oldest files into the next-oldest backup set and delete the oldest.

I can say that I have the same pictures(50gb) in 7 backup folders in this drive. And pretty sure that they are not linked.

I want to keep all my data in the drive and organize all pictures, movies, desktop items.. etc. collaborate them to a same folder.

I found out that latest 3 backup folders doesn't have the files that the other 7 folder has. The pictures for example, some of them are missing in the later backups.

I can't compare them by manually. looking one to another and selecting the differences by eyes. I want to merge all the main files.

And,

What about my second Question?
