iPhone XR screen blacked out on me randomly

Recently I upgraded from a 6s to a XR since I felt it was time for a change for various reasons. I purchased the phone only two days ago and it has been running smooth/perfect for those two days. Just this afternoon around 12, I was about to pick a app to open and the screen blacked out. Now the screen won't even turn on, I already tried restarting using the volume up, volume down, hold power method. I'm very upset since my phone had a full charge and wasn't plugged in and randomly blacked out on me. If anyone can help or has been through the same issue with their new XR please comment.

I have figured it out omg!!!! Minor panic attack.

1. Quick press volume up button(one second or less)

2. Quick press volume down button (one second or less)

3. Hold lock button until Apple logo appears.

Complete all steps simultaneously, do not pause after each step.

Hope this helps! 🙂 (Used on iPhone XR)

Hello ellis255,

Thanks for that info and choosing the Apple Support Communities. Based on what you stated, it seems you are experiencing issues with the display on your iPhone XR going black unexpectedly. At this point, we would like you to reinstall iOS on your device; this will help us isolate the situation further. Reinstalling iOS should not affect any of your data, but it is always a best practice to make sure you have a current backup in either iTunes or iCloud.

How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
Transfer photos and videos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Once you have a current backup, follow the steps from the "If your device turns on but gets stuck during start up" section in this article:

If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won't turn on or is frozen

Use the “Update” option and not “Restore” and these steps will reinstall iOS. Keep in mind that these steps were written for a different issue, but they will still help us isolate the situation further.

Cheers!
