Message when trying to use Time Machine

Every time I try to backup my data on my external drive, it tells me that "this disk is already reverting."

What do I do in this situation? It's not an issue of the password; I've already located the encryption volume password using Keychain Access.

Do I just wait or something?

Time Machine back error regarding encryption So, for the first time in eons, I went to check on Time Machine. Turns out it has not backed up in years. So, I go to "Back up Now" and immediately get an error message as shown below. I don't recall ever having any drives encrypted, but beyond that, I took the single 1TB drive, erased it (which creates new partition) using the Disk Utility. Disk is clean and empty. It passes the first aid test. If I try and run Time Machine, it says the same thing. Note that ALL my drives are internal to the machine. Almost every document is on a 1TB SATA drive internal in a drive bay. The backup drive is an identical 1TB SATA in an adjacent bay. The boot drive (OS + Apps) is a 6G SSD on a PCIe card. Running a reasonably fresh install of High Sierra. So, why won't Time Machine backup up to this fresh clean drive? Why is it seemingly remembering perhaps some encryption set eons ago? I'm working with a clean, repartitioned, empty drive.

decrypting backup disc not allowing access My external backup disc has been decrypting for some time, even tho' I hadn't requested it to. that seemed ok but now when I plug in I get a box asking for password required to turn off encryption". I put in the password and a box says "error preparing the Time Machine backup disk" "This core storage logical volume already decrypting" I ok it, try to use the disc again and the loop starts again asking for password. So I can't do a backup. will it sort itself out if I leave it plugged in to decrypt even tho it shows now indication of doing so?

You appear to have changed your mind about encrypting your backup drive, and it has begun the four hours or more long process of reverting to an un-encrypted Volume. All you can do now is wait until it is done.
