exclude external drive from spotlight permanently

Hey, I want to stop Spotlight from indexing my external drives, as it slows them down (I finally figure out that is what was causing my drives problems), but after I add them to Spotlight Privacy exclusion, they reappear if I restart the computer or reconnect them. Is there a way I can permanently exclude them so I don't constantly have to manually add them after each restart or connection?

MacBook Pro TouchBar and Touch ID, macOS Mojave (10.14.1)

Never mind. I had to refresh the System Preference and once I quit and restarted it, the drives were still there. Thank god 🙂
