exclude external drive from spotlight permanently

Hey, I want to stop Spotlight from indexing my external drives, as it slows them down (I finally figure out that is what was causing my drives problems), but after I add them to Spotlight Privacy exclusion, they reappear if I restart the computer or reconnect them. Is there a way I can permanently exclude them so I don't constantly have to manually add them after each restart or connection?
