Numbers Update to latest version

Numbers on my Macbook Pro indicates that I need to get the latest version of Numbers. When I go to the App Store and click "Update" for Numbers, I see the spinning wheel but it never updates Numbers. Help. How do I update Numbers?

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)

Hi bb'

Your profile information (below your post) indicates your iMac is running under OS X Mavericks (10.9.5).

Current versions of Numbers, Pages and Keynote require macOS 10.13 or 10.14.

You'll need to update your operating system before you are able to update Numbers.

Thanks for your prompt response. While I was waiting for your response I tried to update my macOS to Mohave 10.14 but the message I received was that my computer could not be updated to Mohave. My Macbook Pro was purchased in 2009 so I guess it can't handle it. Numbers won't run unless I update it and that requires updating the macOS to something higher than 10.10.5. Any suggestions?

What version of Numbers were you running?

You said in your initial post that "Numbers on my Macbook Pro indicates that I need to get the latest version of Numbers."

Will that version of Numbers open? Will it open files that have been stored only on your computer, and have not been sent to iCloud? The big push in recent Numbers updates/upgrades seems to have been to provide better inter device transfer of files. If you can get along without that, the version you have currently installed may continue to serve you.

If your machine is compatible with OS X (10.11) Yosemite, there may be a way to update to that OS. A definitive answer to that possibility would need to come from someone else, though. The procedures, if they exist, are beyond my ken.

Barry
