Audio Plugins - Waves Diamond Bundle - w/FCP?

I have just installed the WAVES Diamond Bundle in hopes of using it to clean up Audio in FCP. After install, I do NOT see them anywhere in FCP.

-Should FCP recognize Waves plugins?
-Should SoundTrack Pro?

Lamont. I'm on my system now...so I can give you more detail.

First check to that the "WaveShell-AU_5.0.x.component" is in the folder {MacintoshHD}>Library>Audio>Plug-ins>Components". If it is not in that folder, no Apple Audio App will recognize them.

Second...when FCP is loading under the version do you see "LOADING AUDIO FILTERS WAVES: xx". The first time you run FCP with the WaveShell plugged in...it will take forever to boot. It isn't hung...it just takes forever! I have a G5 2.7Ghz with 8Gig of RAM and it took probably 30 minutes. This will speed up on subsequent reboots...but still takes longer than booting without them.

Also...WaveShell-AU_5.0.1 should load without error...5.0.2 may error out a few times, just continue through them.

Finally...once FCP is loaded click an audio track and apply an audio filter. Under this you should submenus with the manufacturer. Under the "Waves" should be all your Waves plugs.

D D D Dan tha Man!

I went back to see where WaveShellAU was. It was NOT there.
I ran the installer for it... and, wholla! All of the Waves Plug-ins appeared. Not only in FCP, but also in GarageBand. I haven't checked out SoundTrack Pro yet but I'm guessing/hoping they'll be available there also.

The file in the installer was called Install Waves AU Shell 1.0.1. It was actually in my Waves v4 Platinum installation and not in the v5 Diamond upgrade.

I noticed on their site they had WaveShell-AU5.0.1. I did NOT download and install this version as a colleague said I would have to pay for the Waves Update Plan (WUP) due to some changes that have been made in regards to iLok.

I was thinking WaveShell-AU5.0.1 & iLok were totally different and unrelated. Like most of us... I'm usually strapped for cash and do not want to have to pay for anything right about now.

I'm sure this new version is much improved over my old Waves AU Shell 1.0.1 and would love to go ahead and install.

Do you have any information on whether or not WaveShell-AU5.0.1 will break my iLok?

Also... I'm trying to use X-Noise in FCP to remove some Camera Hum from a Onboard Camera Mic.

When I apply the filter I was hoping/expecting to see the normal X-Noise GUI pop up so I could use the LEARN & APPLY feature. This is not the case. It applies but is in the normal FCP effect window with NO LEARN & APPLY as I would expect.

Anybody have any experience with X-Noise in FCP?

Lamont,

Sorry for the delay...I've been out of the country the last week.

My recollection is that the Waves Shell should match the plug version. For instance, v4 should be WavesShell_4...v5 plugs should be WavesShell_5. I don't have the latest...but I assume it is the same. There is also a variant to it related to the bundling. For instance, the Vocal Bundle requires the Vocal WaveShellx.

All of these should coordinate, and can cause some problems if not. If you own version X...I believe you should be able to download the cooresponding package that will contain the Authorizers. From the cooresponding authorizer (Waves Authorizer 5 or Waves Vocal Authroizer, etc.) you should be able to install...this was regardless of your WUP status. WUP status used to relate to calling in for Tech Support or getting a discount when upgrading.

With all of that said...I do know they have changed their WUP policies in the last year. It would be very discouraging to me if they discontinue former product downloads based on that! Sorry I don't have more information. I'll look around.

I don't believe the 5.0.1 will break your iLok for v4 plugs... But to my knowledge, the version 5 waveshell only supports v5 plugs and will therefore not be of any use to you.

My recommendation would be to get the latest download package from the waves site (if possible) that corresponds to the package you own. This should not require additional iLok authorizing...but will update any plugs and the shell to their latest versions.

If you own v5 and v4... check your iLok to see if you have the v5 license either downloaded or installed, download the v5 Diamond package from waves. Archive all your current stuff...and then delete the relating v4 shells and plugs. Reinstall the v5 waveshell. You should be done.

If you don't see it in your iLok...I would contact waves support (thier support telephone number is listed on thier website). Tell them you have a licensing issues, I believe licensing issues are excluded from support aggreement. Once they help you get the license to your iLok...then follow the above steps.

Sorry for the rambling...hope that helps.

When the demo expires for some or all of the installed plug-ins you can move them to an Unused Plug-Ins folder or delete them from your computer. Otherwise they will continue to prompt you that the demo expired every time you launch your host application. To eliminate any Waves plug-ins from loading with your host, remove the WaveShell from the host application’s Plug-Ins directory.

Hopefully this will also apply if you just don't want the Waves Plug-ins to load with FCP.
