Cannot Capture Mouse Pointer in Screenshots

Now matter what I try, I cannot Capture the Mouse Pointer in my ScreenShots!

USING COMMAND-SHIFT-5

I've read the instructions carefully from this and several other websites... and it still does not work!

Please explain in detail what I must do.. It does work with recording video from my screen but not in screenshots.

MOUSE POINTER SHOULD BE SHOWING IN SCREENSHOT ABOVE FOR "ADD BOOKMARK" MENU ITEM!

"Grab" Utility used to do this so easily... but I don't get it!

I want to take screenshots of a Menu selected with the mouse pointer on a menu item down on the list!

Please advise because as you can tell this is driving me NUTS!

Show Mouse Pointer: Choose whether to show the mouse pointer in your screenshot.

MacBook Pro, macOS Mojave (10.14.1), Mid 2012, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD

The only way I can get the cursor to show is by taking a full screen screenshot then cropping it (Command + Shift + 3).

Capture works, the cursor doesn't show which was the topic.

The shift+command+5 has a menu item (Show Mouse Pointer) in its Options menu. After you select this, press Esc to exit from this capture mode, and then press shift+command+5 again to select your content that has checkmarks in them. Then capture works:

well actually I also used ScreenSnaps.. I think it was by Rogue Amoeba. I am a teacher and having that mouse pointer clarifies things for my older Adult students who need extra visual aids.. like those who've been using computers for 33 years. LOL thanks!

well suffice to say .. I'm asking 9-5 Mac and MacWorld staff since they're the ones bragging how awesome this feature is that does not work the way I've done in the past with 3rd. party screenshot utilities..which is what I'll probably end up using and liking better.. I think Techsmith SNAGIT will do everything I want and then some without all this drama. I'll let Apple Support continue to lick its iPhone wounds because that's all they seem to care about these days. I guess Screenshots takes a number behind the Mac Pro.

Well, I've used Macs for 33 years and never used Grab so I can't say it was useful. I also don't need the cursor in screen shots. Highlights suffice for me.

Wow thank you... So Cmd. Shift 5 is then worthless unless we are recording video.. how recently typical of Apple, took away Grab and gave us this.. Mouse Pointer a no-show in Screenshots.
