Can I sort by "Date Modified"?

I just came back from mountain climbing in Nepal and I have A LOT (600GB) of amazing videos that I'd like to edit. For some reason, when I copied the memory cards to my external HD "My Passport 4TB", for some reason the "Date Created" is the time the files got copied and "Date Modified" is the actual time I shot the clip.

I want my files in FCPX to be ordered by the time I shot the clip, but I can only find "Sort by Date Created". So I have two options: Try and somehow change the metadata for ALL THE CLIPS and invert "Date Created" and "Date Modified", or find a way to sort the clips in FCPX by "Date Modified".

Any suggestions?

At least the drive is ExFAT and not some other DOS format.

The GoPro structure is probably different but this is what you need to copy into a folder on the WD drive for each card.

You need to copy everything to the right of sidebar. All the folders regardless of the content. That's the whole camera structure. If you do that you should get the correct camera dates.

You can do it manually as you suggest. I think the real problem is in the copy process. Do you copy the entire camera card structure to the WD drive? How is the drive formatted?

How can this be done manually?

I copied the entire card to the drive, and it was a brand new drive from "WD My Passport Wireless Pro", so I didn't format it in any special way.

I understand the dates are correct there; it’s the folder structure that’s important, and the drive formatting.

That is EXACTLY what I did. I've been working as a videographer for 4 years now, and this never happened, only with this new external hard drive.

I don't know why this happened. I can't test it with GoPro material, but two other camera types I tested worked correctly off and ExFAT drive.

Check the formatting in the Finder info window. Select the drive and use Cmd-I.

There is a modify date function in FCP which lets you set the creation date manually. As all your clips probably have the same date this would be pretty laborious.

Can you post a screenshot that shows what you copied over?

This is part of both files from Both my cameras. The Right one (date modified) is the right time of shooting, and the left one (date created) is the date that I copied the memory card to the drive
