your iPhone cant be backed up because it is being backed up in iCloud
I am trying to update my phone but I am unable to back up my phone to my computer because I am told that it is already in the process of an iCloud backup.

Go to Settings, tap on your name at the top, then iCloud. Scroll to Backup and tap on it. If it truly is backing up it will give you an estimate of when it will finish. If it is not backing up there's a flag out of sync. Restart your phone: Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
