Shutter sound when taking pics

I have 2 brand new, less than one day old, that both exhibit the same symptom. That is when taking a photo they make no sound when pushing on the button. This is the same whether using the phone button or the volume button. If I push very hard on the phone button it will make faint sounds while taking lots of photos. Apple Care wants me to erase the entire phone and start over. Any ideas?

iMac, macOS High Sierra (10.13.4)

Are you taking Live Photos? If so, there won't be a shutter sound.


If you are taking normal, portrait, or square photos, you should have a sound. Is your volume turned up? Are you certain the Mute switch (on the left side of the device) isn't turned on?
