I just purchased an Apple 4 watch (GPS & Cellular) directly from my cellular provider. However, I am puzzled, because they have assigned me a different number to that of my iPhone number. Can anyone explain why and indicate whether this normal? I haven't setup my watch yet.

You will need to ask your cellular provider how their service works and confirm the costs. Make sure your Apple Watch is updated to the latest watchOS and you have updated your carrier settings. Then restart your Apple Watch to refresh it.
