Arduino UNO r3 cannot be found on serial ports

I have '17 macbook pro with only thunderbolt ports and I'm thinking the thunderbolt ports are the issue. I've looked for help in Arduino forums and came to the conclusion it's an Apple issue (Arduino works on usb 3.0 in other OS). I've tried multiple adapters (including apple manufactured ones) as well as multiple cables with same results in bootcamp windows 10. Each time I run ls /dev/ in terminal and the board is nowhere to be found. It's a genuine UNO board so allegedly I don't need to install any different drivers. I've had this board for months and have never been able to use it on either high sierra or mojave. Does anyone have a solution?

MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017, 4 TBT3), macOS Mojave (10.14.1)

What sort of device is it supposed to enumerate as in

USB (CDC, HID, etc.)

Also, check System Information (either via "about this Mac..."

or in Applications->Utilities) and see if the device is recognized

there. The hardware may be recognized but it may not get

"loaded" for use. This should determine if it is a connection issue

or an OS issue as most any USB device may show up on the bus

but not be able to be utilized by the OS.
