Question about upgrading RAM

Hello! I want to upgrade the RAM for my macbook pro (middle of 2012, 13 inches) from 4 GB to 8 GB.

Apples how too page recommends the following:

Memory card specifications - Double Data Rate Small Outline Dual Inline Memory Module (DDR3) format
- 67.6mm x 30mm (1.18 inch)
- 2 GB or 4 GB
- 204-pin
- PC3-12800 DDR3 1600 MHz type RAM

The one I have found that seems to match these requirements is:

Corsair 4GB (1x4GB) / 1066MHz / DDR3 / CL7 / CMSA4GX3M1A1066C7 (Apple)

Only difference is that this one is 1066MHz instead of 1600 MHz, as recommended by Apple.

My question is: Does the difference in MHz mean that the RAM wont work with my Mac, or is it just something to do with performance?

Cheers guys, appreciate the help.

Hi jjjonasleo! Just to make sure, do you have a Retina or Unibody MacBook Pro 2012? The 2012 Retina MacBook Pro, the thinner one, CANNOT have it's RAM upgraded. The Unibody, the thicker one with the DVD drive, CAN have it's ram upgraded.

If it is the Unibody model, a RAM kit such as this from Crucial should work just fine. However, make sure you know what you are doing before opening your computer.

To learn how to do a ram swap on a 13" 2012 Unibody MacBook Pro, check Apple's article here:

Hope it helps!

You must use the exact correct speed, not slower and surprisingly, not faster. "Close"is not nearly good enough.

Be sure you are buying from a vendor with a liberal return policy. If it does not work, you own some rather expensive key fobs.

Best way is to buy from a vendor who knows what will work in your Mac, and will guarantee it will work or your money back.
