How are you storing the phots on your MacBook Air? Are you using one of Apple's photos application - Photos, iPhoto, or Aperture? Or are your photos stored in folders on your Mac?
Select the photo(s) to be deleted and hold down the command key and press the delete key or right click on the photos an select delete photos. This moves the photos to the recently deleted album where they will sit for 30 days.
If this doesn't help let us know if you're receiving an error message when you try to delete them or are you deleting them and they keep coming back?

The DVD player is a separate device. It needs to be communicating with the Mac by connection with a USB port, which I did. But when I insert the DVD, the device does not pull it in, as it should. It is like it does not have power.
