I installed a Samsung SSD in my iMac Model 10,1. I then installed El Capitan using the Recovery mode. Format is Mac OS extended (Journaled).
Now I want to upgrade to High Sierra but I don't get that choice in the App Store. In System Preferences I have the option turned on to install OS X updates.

Check to make sure your applications are compatible. PowerPC applications are no longer supported after 10.6.
Also check to make sure there is a compatible driver for your printer.
Do a backup before installing, preferable 2 backups on 2 different drives.

Okay, that looks like it will work. But when I searched for High Sierra in the App Store previously I did not get the link you gave me.
I thought Apple automatically offered the update. Maybe they did to Mojave but my system won't run Mojave. I thought they would offer High Sierra instead but I guess not.

That's may be because it's not an update, it's an upgrade. If your Mac is capable of running High Sierra you can download it here:
