ipod shuffle battery not charging to 'green'

I bought my new ipod shuffle yesterday and it works fine, however it does not seem to charge properly. I have plugged it in to charge over 8 hours ago and still no green light. Anyone else have this problem?

Is the status LED steady orange or blinking orange? IF it's blinking, you'll never see a transition to green, UNLESS you EJECT the Shuffle either in iTunes or Finder.

Otherwise, patience is required AND not allowing your computer to sleep...

Thanks for the reply,

The orange light is steady and yesterday I was using my MacBook all day so it wasn't in sleep mode...I agree that you have to give these things time but 8 hours does seem to me long enough for the thing to charge. The time qouted by apple for a full charge is 4 hours... If it doesn't charge to green with the computer running today I feel I should return it to the store for a replacement. I had the original shuffle for 2 years and had no problem and my son's nano charges fine...

Regards,

Lynda

That answer was specific to the original poster wjhose computer is a Mac... Finder is sort of equivalent to Windows Explorer.

For your purposes, I suggest you EJECT or UNmount your Shuffle in the System Tray using "safely remove hardware" and see if the status LED switches to green.

Same thing happened to my daughter's iPod Shuffle
(orange).

Worked GREAT for two months...now it's not charging.
Batteries on these things suck. I'm taking it back to
the Apple Store to see if they'll replace the whole
darn thing....

IF you tell them that you're running 10.2.x, they're going to recommend that you upgrade to 10.3.9, or later to be able to charge and use your 2nd Gen Shuffle. They may NOT be willing to give you a replacement Shuffle just to have you come in again with the same complaint.

Here are the requirements from page 25 of your very fine manual:

To use iPod shuffle, you must have:

One of the following computer configurations:

A Macintosh with a USB port (USB 2.0 recommended)

A Windows PC with a USB port or a USB card installed (USB 2.0 recommended)

One of the following operating systems:

Mac OS X v10.3.9 or later,
Windows 2000 with Service Pack 4 or later, or
Windows XP Home or Professional with Service Pack 2 or later

Internet access (a broadband connection is recommended)
iTunes 7.0.2 or later (iTunes can be downloaded from www.apple.com/ipod/start)

you are lucky if you got yours to work! i have been charging mine for two days and it has never worked. it stays on orange light although once yesterday evening it turned green but it never turned on. could someone tell me what my options are at this point? i purchased this 2nd generation ipod shuffle last weekend in hong kong and brought it to switzerland. does my warranty allow me to return this to the apple shop directly or do i have to mail it? or are they obligated to 'repair' or 'replace' this unit? i just went through the online ordering of a repair and had to enter my credit card info (!!!). i am sick and tired at this point having spent too many hours on this. any advice please on next steps.

Hi
Just bought Shuffle Ver 2 from US. Won't charge, won't play even though itunes tell me everything is in sync. Most frustrating thing is the is no way of knowing the IPod takes a charge other than the light going green or turnig on & trying to play songs.
Feel like I've wasted my money.
What happens if I connect to another computr that someone else uses their ITune account on.Will this affect my settings at all?
