Why can't I forward a text to my own email address?

iPhone 7

  1. Tap and hold the message I'd like to forward (complicated link with Xmas presents) to my email.
  2. Tap More.
  3. Tap bottom right arrow to forward.
  4. Input my email address.
  5. Hit return.
  6. My own contact name autopopulates.
  7. Hit send.
  8. I receive a text from myself instead of it going to email like I wanted.
  9. ????

Q: Is there a simple way to forward a text message to my own email address?

Both are setup to Send/Receive, or rather "YOU CAN RECEIVE IMESSAGES TO AND REPLY FROM:"

  • [phone number]
  • [work email]
  • [Apple ID/personal email]

UPDATE: Looks like the simplest way to get a link from iMessage to my computer is to Copy it in iMessage, then pin a new note in Google Keep, and it will very quickly show up in Google Keep on my computer. Meh, I guess it's about even with emailing yourself. Less fields to fill out, maybe.

Okay, so in the setup of your Messages, do you have both your phone number and Apple ID selected as Send/Receive? If the Apple ID is not set up for Receive, then it would default to your phone number, since that is showing in your Contact.

I looked at the first link, if this is not an iMessage, but an SMS/MMS, it says "if your network allows it". So you may need to check with the carrier. But if it is an iMessage, it should if the email is in your send/receive. The issue is probably since it would be sending/receiving by you, it is going to default to the phone number.
