I just bought an Apple Lightning to SD Card Camera Reader to use with my iPhone XS Max. However, when I plug in the card reader to the lightning port, the iPhone continuously restarts about every one minute. But it works normally both on my iPad and my wife’s iPhone X.
I don’t know if it’s the problem of my iPhone Xs max? (iOS 12.1, 256GB)

i got the exact same issue on 12.1.3 & 12.1.4 on both Xs And Xs Max, not affected on my ipad 6th and iPhone 6S and X. I went to apple store today they can reproduce the same issue on their own Xs too. Anyway they swap a new one for me and said they know it won't fix it but hope 12.2 would fix this later on.
I encourage those who are facing the same issue to log a ticket with Apple Support Technical Advisor.
I had already raised a ticket and provided them with the logs from the device and itunes. pending engineering for update. BTW i was told they do not monitoring discussions.apple.com. So as long ticket is not created no action will be taken. More ticket might help to get fixed asap.
I have this exact same issue on my iPhone XS 64GB, iOS both 12.1 and 12.1.2. iPhone reboots or shuts down couple minutes after connecting adapter with a card inside. I managed to import couple pictures between reboots and they are fine. I didn't experience this problem while connecting empty adapter.

Ils 12.1.3 still doesn't work it crash the phone
I have an XS max, I bought a lightning to sd card camera reader yesterday. The same thing happens to my phone as well. It is so disappointing that you pay much to buy a product and if it is incompatible with apples own products.
I had the same issue..
I am on iPhone XS max and IOS 12.1 the phone will auto reboot when I was selected which photo to download. This is really terrible for an expansive device in history to have this issue...
The same card reader and IOS on iphone 7 no issue.
I also got the same problem !! Hope Apple will fix this as soon as possible. (ios 12.1.2)
I’m having the exact same issues. Please Apple, fix this. It’s annoying and is otherwise a highly recommended tool for photographers
