Ad - Aware ?

I've just bought my first Mac several weeks ago. Now I wonder if a software program such as Ad-Aware (I used it on my PC) is available for Mac? Do you need this kind of software on a Mac?

iMac 5.1, Mac OS X (10.4.8)

No idea what that is, but assuming that it is advertisement blocker, use Safari and click on 'Block pop-up windows' in Safari's menu.

There is no adware or spyware on the Mac. There are some programs out there though. Can't remember the name of the one that I tried though. I downloaded it and ran it, and guess what? It found nothing.

There are a few potential problems, though - pagebugs can work whatever the platform as they're browser-related, and lots of programmes have automated checks for authentication of software or software update.

Little Snitch will give you the opportunity to stop them if you choose. In addition, use your firewall, and the hardware firewall on your router/modem to remove all possibilities of a problem.

But that may restrict your own surfing experience if carried out too strictly, so stay calm and use the available tools to optimise your web experience while keeping you as safe as is possible (and on this platform, that is very safe).
