D-Link router USB print server enable LPR/LPD printing from iMac

I have just installed a D-Link Wireless router Model DI-724GU with Print Server, followed the directions to enable LPR/LPD printing from my iMac G4 to the Brother MFC-9600 printer, and added the IP printer to the printer list using the Printer Setup Utility.

I know that the print server is working because I can print from two PCs attached to the router (one wired, one wireless) but I cannot print from the iMac.

The (IP) printer appears in the printer list but the "In Menu" check box (with check) is grayed out and when I try to print nothing happens.

Thanks for any help.

I had the same problem with D-Link and a brother hl-2040. It took me a while to track down all of the info you actually need to do this, but this is what I had to do:

1) Make sure the printer queue name is 'lp' (lowercase LP)
2) With 10.4.9 this meant I had to NAME the printer lp, since it created the queue name from the name, and disregarded what I entered as the ACTUAL queue name
3) Make sure the protocol is LPD (and not IPP, as some sites will tell you)

If you are using the default setup, then the IP address is the same as that of the router, i.e. 192.168.0.1

Hopefully that will get things working for you.
