Shuffle-Write protection Error

I just got my ipod shuffle (2nd gen)and i have downloaded itunes the newest one , after lots of trouble with that. neways I plug my ipod in and itunes tells me that there is a "write protection error" cannot access . I have tried to reformat it with the .50 fix and it doesnt work because of this same error. I have searched these forums and cant find nething bout this particular error, and all the links to the apple knowledge base havent helped either, so i think the forum is the only hope i have,lol. Is there a way to take the write protection off? I would appreciate any help! Thanks
