Quiet External Hard Drives

I am in the process of buying an external HD. My main requirement is that the HD has to be quiet. Of course I have other requirements, but noise level is very important for me. I love my iMac because is sooo quiet compared to my DELL laptop. So far I am looking at two models:

-G Tech G Drive (they say that it doesn't have a fan and thus is very quiet)
-Western Digital MyBook Pro edition

So far I have read that both are pretty quiet, but I want to check with someone on this forum.

Can anyone comment on which is better in terms of noise?

I have bought a western digital mybook pro 500gb drive very recently. My criteria are, like yours, for the drive to be as quiet as possible and for speed and stability.

I have to say though the wd mybook pro is noisier than my maxtor one touch 2 and my partner's lacie d2. It's not terrible - but as i do audio work and recording i can't have it on my desk so have found a space for it under my desk - luckily it doesn't need to be switched on - it starts automatically when i boot up.

Perhaps that's just my drive? maybe. but next time i'll get a lacie even though they are much more expensive. apart from the sound issue it is a good drive though so far!

Hope that helps.
