Airport express responds to ping, but isn't seen by iTunes or Admin utility

Network using D-Link router/WAP. Computer is running Windows XP Pro with the Windows firewall turned off.

I can ping my airport express and can open it from the Base Station Chooser using "Other..." and typing in the IP address, but the Base Station Chooser can't discover it when I click "Rescan" and the device doesn't appear as a speaker choice in iTunes.

Airport Express firmware 6.3, set to wireless client mode. LED is solid green and flashes occasionally. Router reports that the airport is successfully requesting a DHCP lease and I can successfully ping it and open the configuration page from the Base Station Chooser if I manually enter the IP address.

I tried a hard reset (paperclip) and wired ethernet connection, but the same thing happens. The Admin utility can't discover the the airport express but can connect if I manually enter the IP address.

I don't see anything about this in the troubleshooting guide or the Airport Express FAQs. Can anyone suggest a strategy for troubleshooting it?

Alternately, is there a way to tell iTunes to connect to an Airport Express at a specific IP address?
