I recently switched from my old Power Book to a desktop, and I am quite happy. However, I give a lot of presentations, and while my laptop still works, I would love to have something tiny that could run a Keynote Presentation. Yes, I am a Mac show off. Just imagine the scene if I could connect an iPod-ish device to a projector cable and start talking. I was really hoping that an iPhone could do it! Currently, I carry talks on a jump drive in case of impromptu situations (not as rare as you might think), but they have to be PowerPoint compatible. Any suggestions?

I see that Margi systems has something that works (kind of roughly) with PowerPoint and a PDA. Is there anything like that (but better) for people like us?

Welcome to the forums, AtomHammer.

There is no non-Mac device that will run a full Keynote presentation -- Keynote is dependent on many OS X-specific technologies, and so it isn't possible for a non-Mac device to run a KN presentation. It's possible that the iPhone could, given its apparent OS X/Quartz foundation, but we won't know if it can for several months.

With all of this said, I have been extremely happy using my iPod Photo to show Keynote-derived slideshows for my course lectures. I use it every time I teach to show the lecture outline and notes. It can't do animations, of course, but it can to some basic presentation-wide slide transitions (wipes, pushes), and the individual slides look great, with Keynote's excellent typography and graphic goodies (such as drop shadows and translucency). And it is great to be able to walk to the university carrying only my iPod, charger, and a few small video hookups, rather than a complete laptop.

So, for the time being, I'd suggest using an iPod (one that can display slideshows, of course). And we'll keep our fingers crossed about the iPhone.
