    Hi-

You will need a card with 2 dual link DVI ports- the GeForce 6800 Ultra DDL is your only choice.

They are hard to find, and I haven't found a source in UK yet. You can get one from this quality, Mac specialist in the US:

    Found one here:http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Apple-Mac-Nvidia-GeForce-6800-Ultra-DDL-Graphics-Card_W0QQ itemZ250089666053QQihZ015QQcategoryZ80034QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Sorry, but that card's an AGP model, and he's got a Quad (PCI-Express). Won't work.

The only card that works with the G5 Quad that can drive two 30" displays and has 512 MB RAM is nVidia's Quadro FX 4500. Apple has never sold this as a separate card, so you can only find it as a replacement part so it'll cost you big bucks - around $1,900 USD. http://www.welovemacs.com/6613732.html

ATi's X1900 G5 Edition has two dual-link DVI ports so it can drive two 30" displays. It has only 256 MB of RAM though.

It seems that the Apple Store UK doesn't show those cards as for sale (The U.S. store does). OWC has it for sale, but I'm also not sure if they ship to the UK. You'd probably get hit with VAT as well, if I recall correctly.

You might just need to ask at your local Mac reseller. I wasn't able to get much good info off of ATi's website either.

Another option, depending on what you're using these displays for and what you've already got installed in the way of PCIe cards, is to purchase and install the nVidia 6600 in the PCIe 8x slot. It has one dual-link DVI port, and with the dual-link DVI port on your 7800GT, you'd be able to drive two 30" displays. It's certainly not as powerful as either the 7800GT or the ATi, but it's also much less expensive (and the Apple Store UK sells it - although 6-8 weeks out).

The ATi card isn't really any faster than the 7800GT you've already got, and will set you back $350 USD or so. But, if you need a single-card solution, it will do the job. Assuming you can find one, that is.

    Best of luck.

    Steve-

    Thanks for catching my oversight.
It's better to check Discussions with a fresh mind, but, an insomniac needs something to do....

And to digitalparish- Sorry about the blunder!

I have not been able to find a 7800GT to match existing was hoping for single card solution do feel let down by Apple who can only offer the 6600 as the upgrade route supose they want to sell a Mac Pro

The NVIDIA GeForce 6600 is available from Apple in the UK, but not soon.

You can only have one 7800GT in a G5. There is only one connector for its extra power cable. You will get best results if you can find the ATI Radeon® X1900 G5 Mac® Edition. ATI says they are in stock, so you should be able to get one in the UK, or shipped from US. Other World Computing has them in stock, and they ship internationally.

I will order a ATI Radeon® X1900 G5 Mac® Edition and get it shipped and also try a 6600 in parallel with 7800

    Hi there!

I've got a Power Mac G5 Quad, I put an ATi x1900 G5 Quad edition card couple of months ago. I'm just wondering if can put my old GeForce 6800 Ultra DDL card back into my Mac.
Can I do it? Does it make sense?

    cheers

Only if you wanted a third and fourth screen but not sure if there is sufficent power you would need to check that out

No, you can't do it. The G5 Quad does not have an AGP slot, so there's no way you can use your GeForce 6800 Ultra, which is an AGP card. You'd be better off selling that card - you could probably find a buyer fairly easily, I'd think.

In that case, you should be able to do it. In the Mac Pros, there are some issues when having an ATi and an nVidia card installed at the same time. I don't know if this affects the G5 or not.
